How to get MKV files imported to Windows Movie Maker



I wanna make an animate music video, but my Windows Movie Maker only accepts a few types of video files, it is bad that my source file MKV is out of the supported range. This is a troublesome problem, I just want to know if there is an easy way to convert my MKV files to AVI so I can import and use them and not have to re-download the entire anime.
